Al-Wafaa for Fezzan

Geography often dictates its terms, driving solutions that address crises which cannot be managed without a profound understanding of economic and social structures. This is precisely what the “Loyalty to Fezzan” initiative encapsulates. By grasping the geographical nature and deeply studying social needs, the initiative has successfully directed its compass toward comprehensive spatial development.

This multifaceted development project receives direct support from the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar. On the ground, the project is anchored in supporting entrepreneurship and innovation by assisting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with financial grants. These grants ensure the stability of their initial steps and promote the concept of sustainable development in the region.

Agricultural projects mark the initiative’s inaugural efforts, aiming to strengthen the citizens’ connection to their land by harnessing nature’s abundant solar resources to provide a clean, sustainable energy source. This approach seeks to alleviate the burdens of poor infrastructure and the remoteness of traditional power grids. It aims to breathe life back into abandoned farms whose owners could no longer afford the financial costs caused by electricity crises and other logistical hurdles in production.

Furthermore, the initiative strives to improve access to all southern regions, investing in human capital and available environmental resources. This is coupled with the use of knowledge-building tools, specifically training courses designed to elevate skills and refine capabilities. These courses serve as a fundamental pillar for supporting projects chosen based on criteria that reflect the actual needs and spatial priorities of the South.

The project enjoys broad community support, as evidenced during the initiative’s launch ceremony in the city of Sebha. Its programs are also seeing active participation from young men and women, reinforcing the initiative’s credibility and expanding the scope of investment in the national workforce.

This project represents a promising starting point on a long journey. It begins with training and technical support, extends to financial funding and the opening of marketing channels, and ultimately supports plans for expansion and inclusivity. In the medium and long term, this contributes to the formulation of a highly impactful strategy that fosters sustainable development and creates genuine job opportunities. It does so in an environment that has long served as a human reservoir for migration to northern cities, and as a geographical corridor weighed down by security tensions and regional challenges.
